Title: The Awakening
Why I wrote my book: A few years ago my son came home from his high school biology class asking me to help him prepare for a class debate on the ethics of sex selection and genetic engineering. To his and my surprise, the majority of his high school class, including his teacher, had no ethical problems with termination of pregnancies based on amniocentesis results, human cloning, embryonic stem cell research, genetic engineering, nanotechnology and trans-human combinations.
When I attempted to talk to my friends about these pressing bioetech issues I was met with disinterest, complacency and claims of over complexity. Afterall, bioethics is not a popular topic at potlucks.
This experience with my son’s high school class and with my friends challenged me to find a palatable way to communicate the ethical issues and problems surrounding advancements in biotechnology. I am hopeful that I can accomplish this through the power of story.
About me and my book: I am very happily married and have three great kids who I love and adore. I currently live in western Wisconsin, which is beautiful about eight months out of the year. Since graduating from Pepperdine University School of Law I have gone back and forth between full time ministry and corporate legal practice. When in full time ministry I served as an associate pastor and worked a short time as an attorney for The Christian Broadcasting Corporation. I currently run a small financial planning practice and occasionally speak at my home church, Point of Grace Community Church.
My passion has always been to communicate about the big questions in life. Who am I? Why am I here? Do I have a purpose? Is there a God? Does he have a plan? Have I been made on purpose, for a purpose? I am hoping that The Awakening will be a useful tool to help readers ask the right questions and direct them in the right direction.
Favorite part of working with BelieversPress: BelieversPress allows you to leverage the skills and knowledge of a fantastic group of publishing professionals. I feel privileged to have been able to work with Barb Lilland and Jeff Gerke.
The other great thing about working with Bethany Press/BelieversPress is knowing that you are partnering with them to advance the Kingdom by training missionaries and funding world evangelism.
Share a tip for others: You will hear over and over again that you need to develop a marketing plan far in advance of the printing of your book. Believe it! It’s true. Another tip is when you put together a budget for your book add 10% for changes and upgrades you may make down the line. Lastly, let yourself enjoy the process; self-publishing is an adventure.

Why I wrote my book: The Bilhah Moment was written during a desperate period in my life. I discovered that everyone is bound to have bilhah moments. What we are going through is not new: battles outside and fear inside. Our faith is tested daily and the biggest challenges Christians face today are waiting on God for answers and deciphering His will for their lives.
About me and my book: The Bilhah Moment is a period of desperation devoid of hope. Taken from Genesis 30, it is the gap or blank space between the unfolding will of God and your choice of action in a desperate situation. It is a teachable moment, a recurrent and lifelong event.
In this book, I use examples of real, desperate encounters that people face today, the lessons drawn from them and how to handle silent periods while waiting for answers.
Belinda Enoma is a born-again believer, speaker, lawyer and founder of Persistent Faith Ministries. She passionately shares the unadulterated Word of God empowering people across the globe to live victoriously. Title: Just An Average Kid From Iowa: A Journey of Faith
Why I wrote my book: Originally it stared out as a memoir for my family & grandhildren. As the pages unfolded I could see the hand of God leading, guiding & supplying, a sometime reluctant servant, with whatever was needed to serve Him. I began to realize that my story could be an inspiration to others in their faith journey.
About me and my book: I am a retired minister. The book is about growing up in a small Iowa town. It is full of anecdotel stories about school, college, ministry, family, missions & travel & many amazing “God” moments.
Favorite part about working with BelieversPress: They were very accomodating & helpful in working with me & my already-published book in getting it out in the marketplace & at an affordable price.
Share a tip for others: With the modern advantage of computers & word processors it is easy to get your story written down. So get your story written down. There may be those out there that will be inspired by your walk of faith.

Title: Parenting Teens in a Confusing Culture
Why I wrote my book: I get asked a lot of questions. I have 50 high school kids from around the country who live with me, and give me the opportunity to understand their culture, their struggles, and the world they live in which is far different from the “world” parents grew up in. People ask those questions on our radio program, at my speaking seminars, and through our websites. I have taken the top 32 questions and shared my answers. I write because parents ask.
About me and my book: Over 2,000 teens have lived with me through the years at our residential counseling center in Texas. I’ve been married to my first wife for 34 years, have two kids, two grand-kids, 4 dogs, and way too many horses. I never intended to be an author, nor would I call myself that. I’m more of a story-teller, sharing insights and understandings gained from those I live with.
It’s a tough culture for teens to grow up in. I believe that if parents had a greater understanding of their teen’s world, their response would change thus changing the response of their teen. Any difficulty entered into with compassion and gentleness always changes the outcome.
Favorite part of working with BelieversPress/Bethany Press: All the folks that we have dealt with at Bethany have been wonderful. Their commitment to excellence and their willingness to help make an idea a reality was welcoming easy. Thank-you!
Share a tip for others: Be the person that your dog thinks you are, and you’ll find that your teens will like you better.

Title: The Power of Purity: God’s Design for Sex in a Sex-Saturated World
Why I wrote my book: I wrote this book because of the staggering number of Christian men and women in the church who are compromising their testimonies with sexual immorality. For example, estimates of Christian men viewing pornography monthly range from a low of 60% to a high of 70% and estimates of the number of evangelical Christian pastors viewing pornography at least monthly ranges from between 30-35%. This is unacceptable for the Church of the Holy One of Israel. Because the church is infected with sexual immorality, it is producing worldly people, compromised pastors, and powerless congregations. We are not a threat to the gates of hell but rather are weak and impotent. Almighty God calls us to “be holy because I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16) and we are anything but holy. Someone has likened the church to the proverbial frog in the kettle. We are simmering in a stew of sexualized messages pumped out by the culture and we don’t even realize it!
This book was written as a clarion call to the church to be holy, not “kind of holy” or “sort of holy” or “holy by my own standards,” but holy by God’s standards.
About me and my book: I have been a pastor for over 30 years. I am a graduate of Bradley University (B. Sc.), Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (M. Div.), and Denver Seminary (D. Min.). In addition to being trained and serving as a pastor, I am a licensed marriage and family counselor.
I am the founder and director of the National Coalition For Purity, the sponsoring agency of the popular men’s ministry, Every Man’s Battle For Purity. My wife, Elsie, is the director of Women of Truth, the wives’ purity ministry. Elsie and I have been married for 40 years and have three married adult children and seven precious grandchildren.
The book I’ve written, The Power of Purity: God’s Design for Sex in a Sex-Saturated World, is an outgrowth of the purity ministry in which I’m engaged. It is the first of two books with the second book, The Purity of the Bride, due out in 2010. The first book was written for laymen and broaches the subject of sexual purity. The second book is written for pastors and denominational leaders and addresses the subject of purifying local churches and denominations.
Favorite part of working with BelieversPress/Bethany Press: Sara Rosenberg was a great help in explaining in simple terms the process of metamorphosing my manuscript into a book. She patiently answered my questions and walked me through the process.
High on my list of what sold me on Bethany was the new addition of distribution, marketing, and promotional to their menu of services. No author wants to write a book, get it published, and then have it sit in a box or on a shelf. Authors want to get their books into the hands of readers. Bethany has added that important piece to and that was attractive to me.
Finally, a main consideration in why I chose Bethany was because they are a Christian business that directs a portion of all their profits toward missions and the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That was very appealing to me.
Share a tip for others: As you know, the larger the number of books printed the cheaper each per book copy becomes. As long as they have the presses rolling, they might as well keep printing. Paper is pretty cheap. Based on that, print as many copies as you can reasonably afford. Have a marketing plan in place that will reasonably sell or distribute the number of books you’ve printed in a maximum of three years.

Title: Stories from Japan, Past to Present
Why I wrote my book: The need to reduce the excessive technical jargon and explain the needs of the mission field in story form motivated me. Long years in college classrooms taught me that illustrating abstract principles with stories kept students focused. Also, as I spoke in churches I noticed that it was when I told true stories to illustrate my points that more people woke from their naps.
I felt that only writing what went beyond stereotypes would bring the needed clarity in East/West cultural relations. The myth that all Orientals are the same, and are inscrutable, unsmiling, and lack a sense of humor, needed to be discredited. Although entrenched traditions have restrained the Japanese from making easy changes in religious affiliations, it is a joy to write of the conversions of those who have encountered the grace of God.
About me and my book: As part of the G.I. generation, I lost former high school friends in WWII. A number of my classmates in Submarine Torpedo School were simply reported as “missing in action.” Time and circumstances dictated we look upon the Japanese as our enemies. Yet, I retained a pleasant memory of friends in Californian schools who were of Japanese ancestory. Reconciliation became an underlying theme of my book.
Through Christian Endeavor, a dynamic youth movement, I was challenged by missionary speakers to make a difference in the world by serving in a foreign land. To reach that goal I enrolled in a Christian college and was rewarded by meeting my wife there, who also wanted to introduce the Prince of Peace to those who had been our former enemies. After finishing the intensive training, and spending one year in deputation work, we sailed for Japan.
It has been good to write of our family’s bonding experiences with Japanese friends and neighbors. Finally, after our lengthy experience of living in Japan and studying its culture for many years, it gave me a sense of closure to sum up ten strategic crosscultural communication principles.
Favorite part of working with BelieversPress/Bethany Press: After waiting for a long time, I was finally informed by an apologetic publisher that it would be close to two years before my book could be scheduled. He suggested that I try self-publishing. After checking out this option, I ultimately chose Bethany Press because of the recommendation of a friend. Once committed to Bethany Press, it took only four and one half months for my manuscript to be transformed into beautiful well-bound books that were conveniently packaged and delivered on pallets to my garage.
During the process of interacting with Bethany’s coordinator, I learned how to obtain a copyright, an International Standard Book Number (ISBN), and a Library of Congress Control number. I was patiently tutored in how to make and submit editing corrections and how to transmit sensitive photos without loss of detail. Now that Bethany Press started BelieversPress I look forward to continuing my education in the distribution of my book.

Title: THE ONE: A Woman’s Search for Eternal Love
Why I wrote my book: I realized my own struggles in singleness and spoke at length to a group of single women that shared some of these same concerns. Their thoughts are shared throughout the book. Though there are other books that address singleness, THE ONE will come from the perspective of a single woman that can relate to where singles are in life and the pressures of media, church, and society that are rarely discussed. Unlike the emphasis of everyday society, THE ONE takes the emphasis off of the pursuit of “the one” and more on the pursuit of “THE ONE”. We often don’t realize how our priorities have been shaped by popular media, television, internet, and other mediums that focus our attention on pursuing the opposite sex, leaving single women feeling rejected, alone, and unworthy if they are not involved in a romantic relationship. This is the very opposite of God’s will for our lives, which promises a hope and a future.
About me and my book: I wear many hats as an author, professor, speaker, and founder of Pala Communication. My first book, Changing Lanes: A New Adult’s Guide to Understanding Your Lane in Life was completed in 2005.
My latest book, THE ONE was released early 2009. THE ONE is an easy sell and an easy read. Immediately the title grabs the reader’s attention and the fictional characters that are easy to relate to will keep readers’ interest throughout the book. Real-life scenarios and opinions of single and married women in ministry, media, and the business world are included to give voice to the real issues and concerns these women face, something that is not always addressed in other books on singleness. I truly believe this book will have a positive impact on the lives of single women. Readers will learn how to better focus on seeking THE ONE in every area of their lives, including relationships, finances, and goal-setting.
Favorite part of working with BelieversPress/Bethany Press: Bethany Press and BelieversPress were great to work with and truly operated in excellence. Anytime I had a concern it was taken care of promptly. The people operate with grace and integrity.
Tip to share with others: There were many obstacles I had to endure in releasing THE ONE. I learned that delay is not denial – when God gives you a word it is sure. Nothing can stop His promise to you, so don’t get discouraged, be encouraged that everything is working for your good when you are called according to His purpose.

Q&A with Brett Glover, author of Grace V Self–Esteem
December 8th, 2009 by Nick Ciske
Q 1. Why did you write Grace V Self-Esteem?
A 1. Firstly, let me say I am the last person who would write a book. I had no ambition to write and in fact I had nothing to write about until I had an encounter with God. (You can watch it on in2grace.com) I was called to write but had to wait on God for the message. In the months afterwards I travelled up and down the east Coast of Australia on business. I would pray about the call to write. Then as I travelled, a word would come to mind then a parable expanded from that one word. I wrote down the parable. The experience happened over and over again. So I collected the parables and found that each parable was interconnected and all of them showed me a big picture. I studied the parables, looking at the Bible, social trends and my personal life experiences.
Q2. Who is the book written for?
A 2. The book is for everyone but especially for the Western World. I would say it is extremely important for Pastors, Teachers and Counselors and Doctors to read. Anyone interested in modern life and society.
Q 3. Tell us some more about the parables?
A 3. As I have mentioned God called me to write, but I had no idea what he wanted me to say! I have always liked stories, especially as a kid. Then as a young adult I came to faith, I liked Jesus’ parables. So it was probably natural for me. But I never thought a parable would come through me! I was just driving along the Aussie countryside either early in the morning or late at night. One key word would enter my mind and before I knew it a parable came to life. Even now I look at those parables and learn something new. They are incredibly simple on one level but incredibly deep on another level. They speak to the heart. The meaning is easy to grasp yet the spiritual truths go deep. I am just an ordinary guy nothing special but these parables are special! I am humbled they were given to me.
Q 4. Grace V Self-Esteem is an interesting title, does the title suggests there is a struggle or battle between the two?
A 4. Yes, there is a spiritual struggle between the Grace of God and modern Self-esteem teaching. Most people these days think that high self esteem creates happy, successful and self actualized citizens. Most Psychologist, Counselors and Teachers and even some Preachers have encouraged the pursuit of high self-esteem as a desired goal. However, the grace of God affirms everyone as valuable. The cross is God’s love in action for everyone. In chapter 5 you can see the spiritual struggle; it shows how the Self-esteem teaching in practice creates arrogant and self serving personalities. While grace esteems and humbles us allowing us to love God, and others.
Q 5. What is the core message of your book?
A 5. The core message of the book is that self-esteem teaching is a counterfeit of grace. Both grace and self esteem gives us a sense of value. Grace is a divine attitude found in the generosity of God. That all of life is an unmerited grace gift and Jesus death on the cross is the greatest display of love declaring our value. While self –esteem in practice has become praise hunger and praise hunting in self worship.
Q 6. How did the modern praise game start?
A 6. The emphasis is upon modern! The desire for praise and status has been with us since Adam was a boy but there has been some major social changes that forces us in the West to hunger and hunt for praise. I call this the praise game. Around the mid 1950’s teachers adopt positive reinforcement methods in teaching or in other words using praise to motive children to learn and achieve. Unfortunately praise was used to socialize children, conditioning children to hunger for praise and to seek praise in the class room. While it started in the class room it grew out of control. The prize of the game is to win praise to assert one’s own personal value. You can read about this in Grace V Self Esteem Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.
Q 7. You mentioned that self-esteem is a modern invention?
A 7. Yes absolutely modern. Around the mid 1950’s the teaching profession introduced the practice of positive reinforcement into the school system, first in the US then in other countries. It was seem as a great advancement for educating children. Young children learned that praise was good as they sat and listened to the teacher. Then teachers would use praise to motivate and before long competitive praise entered the class room. Praise also became addictive as it created a pleasure praise biological response. Unfortunately hunting praise has become the main heart motivation for our generation. You can read more in Chapter 1 and 2.
Q 8. How wide spread is the praise game?
A 8. The praise game has gone global or at least the effect of it has! Teachers in the western world have adopted the use of praise as a teaching method starting in the US then to England, Canada, Australia and many other countries. On one level this teaching method worked brilliantly but it ignored the spiritual and social impacts on culture.
Q 9. Is the praise game about self-worship?
A9. Yes absolutely, to worship is a strong instinct just like eating, drinking and reproduction. Everyone is given the ability by God to worship or praise him. The gift allows us to love God but unfortunately when we use praise to gain our own sense of worth we worship ourselves. When we do this we disregard the second of the Ten Commandments. As a consequence we suffer the horrid side effects. I have traced the trail of human suffering from Chapter 1 to Chapter 14.
Q 10. What was Jesus’ attitude to praise hunting?
A10. In the gospels Jesus’ displays a distain for hunting praise. It’s without doubt his main criticism of the leaders of Israel; he called it hypocrisy, speaking out against their hunger for praise and status. This attitude allowed the leaders of Israel to oppose Jesus’ ministry and his teachings about the grace of God. You can read about this in Grace V Self Esteem Chapter 7 & 8
Q 11. What are the effects of the praise game on us?
A 11. Let me just say self worship is false worship and idolatry which creates a wide range of horrible side effects; it creates and promotes violence, depression, greed, abuse of the poor and also leads to hatred towards God. The praise game creates this! In Chapter 2 you can see how the praise game makes us abusive and violent. Chapter 6 shows how it creates depression; Chapter 9 shows how praise hunting creates abusive relationship patterns. Chapter 10 shows how praise distorts our sexuality and causes sexual crime, abuse and suffering. Then in Chapter 11 it shows how the hunt for praise abuses the poor and exploits the earth.
Q 12. Grace v Self-esteem looks at how everything is interconnected?
A 12. Yes everything is interconnected; small seemly harmless activities form part of the bigger picture. On the website The Big Picture page you can see how everything is joined together, for either our blessing or cursing it’s like one big social and spiritual map. The way of grace leads to paradise the other to the spiritual garbage dump. You can read more about the spiritual garbage dump in Chapter 13
Q 13. What does Jesus teach about grace?
A 13. If there was one word to describe Jesus life, teaching and mission it would be grace. No other word best described the attitude and lifestyle of Jesus. By this I mean that everything comes from a generous loving God, and we are all valued by grace, the goodness of God. Jesus claimed to be God’s son and freely offered his life to pay for our sins. You can read about this in Grace V Self Esteem Chapter 4 and Chapter 8
Q 14. When will the book be released?
A 14: It is available for sale in the US, Canada and Mexico now. In Australia–1st of February 2010. The UK–March/April 2010.
Q 15. How does the praise game make us depressed and even suicidal?
A 15: Every kid at school knows it’s better to be cool than not cool, these words describe the praise game. As children we are taught to hunger and hunt for praise, unfortunately some kids are deprived, conditioned to hunger for praise, taught to seek it to achieve esteem. They will feel insignificant or in some cases depressed. Depression is the main characteristic symptom for suicide. You can read more about how the praise game creates depression and leads to suicide in Chapter 6.
Q 16. How does the praise game make us mistreat and abuse others?
A 16: The praise game makes us self focused and self absorbed but on a deep psychological and spiritual level it makes us more concerned with the outer appearance or our self image. This creates socially acceptable “show case images” of ourselves. It lets us hide any negatives behind the image. Hiding sin and nasty attitudes rather than correcting them, they tend to grow! Jesus criticized the Pharisees for cleaning the outside of the cup or dish and leaving the inside unclean. When the image is challenged aggression and resentment will surface.
Q 17: How does the praise game affect our sexuality?
A 17: In Chapter 10 you will learn how the hunger for praise has distorted our biology and makes us hunger for praise in sexual attractiveness. The chapter highlights the sad outcome of sex without love, which keeps us fixated on the mirror and leads many to seek meaning in sexual desirability.
Q 18 Tell us a little about your interests?
A 18: I am married to Connie and have two teenage children Elijah 19 and Hannah 16. I love exploring the Ocean: fishing, diving, sailing, walking the dog along the beach or just enjoying the waves. You might say when I am around the ocean I feel close to God. I can’t help but praise him. I am sure the Ocean is God’s entertainment theme park. One of my all time best worship experiences occurred while scuba diving with Grey Nurse sharks, fifty or so eagle rays and a giant Queensland grouper big enough to eat you whole. I felt so close to God. I just kept on praising him for his full on awesomeness!
Q 19: How would you describe your ministry?
A 19: I feel like an ordinary guy carrying and extraordinary message. As I have said I felt called by God to write and the parables just blew my mind. I left full time ministry some years ago. I had once served as a pastor, a manager of a Baptist residential Youth and Family therapy program. But when called was selling fishing tackle, to my surprise God wanted me to write, go figure! So I stepped out in faith to start In2grace. This extraordinary revelation about grace has rocked my world! I have a prophetic responsibility to spread the word and show everyone what stops the grace of God coming alive in people’s lives and society as a whole. This message holds the key to revival. So I feel compelled to wake the sleeping members of God’s family.
Q20: what is your educational qualification?
A 20:
- A Bachelor Degree from the Sydney College of Divinity, a BTh, 1995
- Diploma in Theology – Morling College – Baptist 1987
- A Social Welfare Work Certification- Southern Sydney Institute,TAFE (3 years Part time) 1985
- One year Family Therapy Training Programme- Eastwood Family Therapy Centre, Epping 1990

Title: Can We Know?
Why I wrote my book: I wrote my book out of a deep concern for the growing secularism in our society and its impact, particularly on young people. With the loss of Christian influence in our society we are experiencing a number of serious personal and social problems. Can We Know? was written to convince an open minded reader that God exists and that the Christian gospel is true.
Much of the unbelief in the modern world is based on the view that agnosticism is the only option to a rational person. Agnosticism says that no one knows or can know the answers to the biggest questions of life such as the existence of God, life after death, or even what is ultimately right and wrong. This moral and spiritual uncertainty has done a great deal of damage and must be confronted. Can We Know? shows the reader how they can truly know the God who loves them so deeply that He gave His Son so that they could be restored to a real relationship with Him.
About me and my book: My sophomore year in college I attended a Campus Crusade retreat and the speaker presented the historical evidence for the resurrection. It was the message I needed to convince me that the gospel was true, and I immediately gave my life to Jesus. After college and a number of years working as an engineer, God led me to prepare for full-time ministry.
I came to what is now Bethany College of Missions in 1979, met my wife Susan, and we set off on the adventure of serving Jesus. Almost from the time I became a Christian in college, I have wanted to write a book on apologetics. Primarily because I believe there are a lot of young men and women just like me, who would like to believe, but who need to be shown that Christianity is really true. I joined the Bethany faculty in 1991 and have had the privilege of teaching apologetics to several generations of Bethany students. Teaching the subject only increased my desire to write a book, particularly because I didn’t see anyone dealing with the agnostic problem and the subsequent growth of postmodernism.
Favorite part of working with BelieversPress/Bethany Press: I have been around Bethany Press for many years. The emphasis on excellence and quality has never wavered, and there was no one else that I would want to print and bind my book. What I appreciated the most about working with BelieversPress was the way they helped me navigate through the process. I had a pretty good cover design for the book, but they suggested we do the cover in MatteKote. That suggestion alone made a big difference in the look of my cover. It went from being a nice cover to an outstanding cover. In addition, Sara and the staff of BelieversPress helped in paper selection, font choice and typesetting. I felt that BelieversPress really cared about me and my book.
Tip to share with others: For anyone considering self-publishing, I would encourage you to, right at the beginning of the process, develop a plan for how you will market your book. You will save yourself many days, weeks, or months of no or few sales. There are several good books available to help you plan a marketing strategy, so create a plan as soon as you can.
