Overall Assessment: This initial step involves reading your manuscript with an eye toward diagnosing any areas that may require revisions, and guiding you through that process with typewritten, detailed feedback for your consideration. For fiction, this phase focuses on plot, character development, and pacing. For non-fiction, this phase concentrates on theme, organization, and general layout.
(Approximately one week turn-around time.)
Substantive Edit: This stage entails putting pen to paper and providing consistent tone, pace, and readability-always with the aim of maintaining the author’s voice. Word usage, sentence structure, conflict and climax, sensory details, dialogue, and description are polished at this stage.
(Approximately two weeks depending upon the length and condition of manuscript.)
Copy Edit: This stage involves a thorough read to correct any typographical errors, grammar issues, misspelling, and punctuation according to The Chicago Manual of Style and Webster’s New World Dictionary, Third College Edition.
(Approximately one week turn-around time.)
